This is just the beginning - Life as we know it is about to change!!

So at long last I took myself to the 3D rendering of Avatar - how on earth will we ever be able to watch 'normal' Sci-Fi movies again. It was an experience second to none. Bright colours, spectacular artwork, amazing special effects. Good verses evil. Love story with a twist in the tail. The unexpected lurked behind several corners and never failed to please when exposed to ones minds-eye. Tried to connect it to other Sci-Fi movies but there were no 'links' this one is 'truly an original'.

Not to keen on 'new-age mother earth' underlying religious current but if placed in the correct domain of 'fantasy', it was acceptable.

Why on earth Walt Disney is creating a movie now using the old style of drawings is beyond me. Old men trying to relive their past! That is like trying to defrost frozen meat in hot water when there are microwaves on the shelves, or listening to the radio to catch the latest news when computers and news feeds or TV are in every room. Just because something was 'good enough' then, does not make it 'good enough' now. I expect more today than I did when I watched Snow White. My mind needs to be taken to new worlds, new experiences, new ways of presenting facts and fiction. I've seen it, I know its possible! - Avatar did that and now there is no going back.

Sometimes we just get to 'the end of an age' and then once you jump off the cliff - that's it. You have taken your followers to new heights and they will never be satisfied with anything less no matter how talented you are. I remember being 'blown away' by Space Odyssey 2001 the first time we saw it at the bioscope - all those years ago, but in the shadow of Avatar its going to gather dust on my shelf. Sure it was a pioneer in its day, but we can't stay in the 'pioneer age' for ever!

So lets raise our glasses (no not the ones on our nose), to more movies created in the 'spirit and style' of Avatar until Avatar too 'takes its place in history' on my shelf as the start of something new in visual and emotional experiences at the movies. This is just the beginning!
